The Rotary Club of Laguna Beach has honored Sophia Utge as student of the month for October for her success in World Languages. Sophia speaks English, Spanish, and Portuguese and has spent much of her life in Brazil and India, fueling her passion for international cultures. She aspires to study International Relations.

​A dedicated leader, Sophia is the co-president of Fashion 4 All and has earned notable awards, including First Alternate for American Auxiliary Girls State of California 2024, recognition in the Big Future National Hispanic Recognition Program 2024, and eligibility for the University of California Local Context 2024. Outside of academics, she enjoys beach volleyball, walking her dogs, reading, and listening to music.

Congrats to Kate Cheng, who has been selected as one of the students of the month for October for her achievements in mathematics and her dedication to the community. As a student representative on the city's environmental subcommittee, Kate works to bridge the district and city sustainability goals. She is also the captain of the LBHS Girls Varsity Basketball team, demonstrating her leadership both on and off the court.



  • Kate plans to pursue a degree in civil/environmental engineering at a four-year university, with a focus on sustainable urban design, transportation, and watershed management. In addi tion to her passion for sustainability, Kate enjoys studying languages.
